"She's also one of the earliest friends that my mother cherished upon arriving to this country as a young woman herself," she said. "So to witness Judge Yew now, to honor her here, to see her stand in her own power, is to not only celebrate her, but also to celebrate my childhood, the starry-eyed young woman who was my mother before me. "There is power in having women tell women's stories,"
Notre Dame San Jose hosted its annual Women of Impact luncheon honoring community leader Judge Erica Yew and Notre Dame alumna Dr. Sejal Hathi, who are godmother and goddaughter. Nearly 400 attendees gathered at the Signia by Hilton in downtown San Jose for the fundraising event supporting tuition assistance at the girls' Catholic school. Hathi recounted family and generational dreams tied to the honor, while Yew’s milestones include being the first Asian American woman appointed to the Santa Clara County Superior Court and receiving a Community Heroes Award this year. The honorees spoke with students about careers, justice, and women's leadership. The school will mark its 175th anniversary next year.
