Police Chief Karl Jacobson admitted taking money from a city fund used to compensate confidential informants and submitted retirement paperwork effective Monday. Three deputies confronted Jacobson Monday morning about financial irregularities, and the chief acknowledged using the funds for personal purposes. Mayor Justin Elicker called the allegations shocking and a betrayal of public trust and said no one is above the law. City officials are cooperating with state investigators, and it is unclear how much or for how long the funds were taken. Assistant Chief David Zannelli was named interim chief.
