"On Aug. 17, Robles was playing for Triple-A Tacoma when he was nearly hit by an inside pitch from Las Vegas' Joey Estes in the third inning. After taking a few steps behind the plate, Robles picked up his bat and threw it in Estes' direction. Robles was promptly ejected by plate umpire Joe McCarthy. Robles had been hit by a pitch three times in his previous four games with Tacoma, including once by Estes."
Victor Robles will begin serving a seven-game suspension Friday after his appeal reduced an initial 10-game ban. The suspension follows an Aug. 17 Triple-A Tacoma incident in which he was nearly hit by an inside pitch from Las Vegas' Joey Estes, picked up his bat and threw it in Estes' direction, and was ejected by plate umpire Joe McCarthy. Robles had been hit by a pitch three times in his previous four Tacoma games and briefly moved toward the mound before teammates and the umpire held him back. He apologized on Instagram, cited the strain of a long rehab and his mother's recent passing, and was fined an undisclosed amount.
