"Starting on Oct. 27, 2025, the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) will offer South Dade commuters access to a brand-new, comfortable and reliable transit connection from Florida City to Dadeland South," the release added. To commemorate the occasion, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and DTPW leadership, along with the Board of County Commissioners, state and federal officials, partners, and stakeholders, will celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 22 at one of the 14 new signature BRT stations."
Metro Express is Miami-Dade County's first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the nation's longest all-electric BRT service, running 20 miles along US-1 to Florida City. Service will begin Oct. 27, 2025, connecting Florida City and Dadeland South via a dedicated lane protected by gate arms and prioritized during rush hour. The line will include 14 signature stations with air-conditioned waiting areas, ample shade, bike-friendly boarding and storage, water fountains, free Wi-Fi, and mobile device charging. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Oct. 22. Funding includes $100 million each from Miami-Dade (People's Transportation surtax), FDOT, and the FTA capital investment grant.
