At about 5:10 a.m., police responded to the 900 block of Sandra Court after a report that a man in his 20s, armed with a knife, was under the influence of drugs and making suicidal comments. Officers attempted to de-escalate as the man emerged from a residence and initially seemed receptive. The man then produced and brandished a concealed knife; officers used a stun gun and ordered him to drop the weapon. The stun gun had no effect and the man moved toward officers with the knife raised. Two officers fired and struck the man. Officers rendered aid and he was taken to a trauma hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported. Separate investigations are ongoing.
