Man Fatally Shot By Police in NW Portland
"According to police, officers tried to serve a warrant on a man who pointed a handgun and tried to shoot at two security officers last Saturday, January 31. The gun didn't fire at the time, and the suspect fled the scene with the handgun, leaving behind an instrument case with a loaded shotgun inside. Police say the shotgun contained shells with "threatening messages" written on them "that specifically named President Donald Trump.""
"According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team arrived at the apartment with an arrest warrant around 5:15 am Thursday, February 5. Police say they tried to negotiate the man's surrender, but when he didn't respond to police at his door, or commands and warnings to come out, they evacuated residents and used OC vapor and tear gas aimed at his apartment to force him out."
Police attempted to serve a warrant after a Jan. 31 incident in which a man falsely claimed to be Secret Service, pointed a handgun at two security guards, and fled, leaving a case with a loaded shotgun whose shells bore threatening messages naming President Donald Trump. Officers coordinated with the U.S. Secret Service and located the man at a Northwest 14th Avenue apartment. The Special Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation Team arrived around 5:15 a.m. Feb. 5, evacuated residents, and deployed OC vapor and tear gas after no response. Two SERT officers fired when the man emerged holding a handgun; he was later pronounced dead and the officers are on administrative leave pending an internal use-of-force review.
