Around noon a man entered a University City McDonald's on Novel Drive near Genesee Avenue and grabbed the manager from behind, wrapping an arm around the employee's neck. The man claimed the manager was in the country illegally and that he was detaining the manager. Coworkers and security guards intervened and forced the man out of the store. San Diego police were called and determined the man was not a law enforcement officer. Impersonating a law enforcement officer is treated as a crime by the San Diego Police Department. A 40-year-old man was booked on suspicion of impersonating an officer and battery. Investigators requested anyone with information contact Det. Sgt. Nick Zastrow at (858) 552-1756.
