Freeman was a 2013 graduate of Presque Isle High School."

Freeman Locklin Short, 31, was a crewmember on the fishing vessel Lily Jean and was lost at sea on January 30, 2026; his body was never recovered. He spent early childhood in Marshfield, Massachusetts, near grandparents and Scituate relatives and made many memories at Humarock Beach. In 2002 his family moved to Presque Isle, Maine, where he formed lifelong friendships, learned skiing, cross-country running, and hunting, and graduated Presque Isle High School in 2013. He was known for intelligence, kindness, sharp wit, and a gift for connecting with others. He served in the Maine Army National Guard and graduated from the University of Maine in 2018 with a degree in Financial Economics; he briefly attended law school.
