He was immensely proud of his children-his adored daughter, Dr. Lily Jean Sanfilippo, who pursued higher education to become an optometrist and now serves the Gloucester community through her practice, Sanfilippo Eye Care; and his cherished son, Anthony Sanfilippo, a graduate of Nichols College with a degree in business, who works as a billing specialist."
Capt. Accursio “Gus” A. Sanfilippo, 55, of Gloucester, died at sea on January 30, 2026. He was born September 24, 1970, to Antonino and the late Lillian (Piazza) Sanfilippo and graduated from Gloucester High School, Class of 1988. He and his wife Lorie shared 32 years together. He grew up on the docks and learned commercial fishing from his Sicilian immigrant father, who worked aboard the F/V St. George II. Gus learned carpentry in high school and built his family home. He loved fishing, spending time with his children, tuna trips, the Choate Bridge Pub, cooking, country music, dancing, and dory racing.
