The ACLU has filed a class action lawsuit in federal court seeking to reinstate the legal status of over 1,100 international students impacted by Trump administration policies. The lawsuit, initiated by ACLU affiliates, represents students mainly from New England and Puerto Rico who are facing unjust termination of their F-1 visa status, threatening their ability to continue education in the U.S. Some students previously have challenged these actions and received temporary judicial protections. Advocates emphasize the critical importance of safeguarding international students' rights against arbitrary revocation of status.
International students are a vital community in our state's universities, and no administration should be allowed to circumvent the law to unilaterally strip students of status.
About 1,100 students at more than 170 colleges, universities and university systems have been affected since late March.
