Jurors see videos of Central NY prison guards brutally beating inmate Robert Brooks
"They did not answer questions from any of the eight lawyers in the courtroom or even say anything at all. They arrived on the stand in small, plastic bags used to collect evidence. They were four Axon body cameras that, apparently unbeknownst to the prison guards wearing them, captured video footage from multiple angles of several guards severely beating inmate Robert L. Brooks. Prosecutors played videos from each of those cameras for jurors on Thursday."
"A series of prison guards effectively turned into a gang on the night of Dec. 9, 2024, according to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, who is a special prosecutor in the case. They brutally attacked Brooks, he said, showing a depraved indifference toward him that ultimately led to his death. Three of those guards, Mathew Galliher, Nicholas Kieffer and David Kingsley, each face top charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. Galliher and Kieffer face additional charges."
Four Axon body-worn cameras captured multi-angle video of several prison guards severely beating inmate Robert L. Brooks. Prosecutors played those videos for jurors as key evidence in the murder prosecution. The attack occurred on the night of Dec. 9, 2024, and prosecutors say guards acted like a gang and showed depraved indifference that led to Brooks's death. Three guards—Mathew Galliher, Nicholas Kieffer and David Kingsley—face top charges including second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter, with additional charges for Galliher and Kieffer. Defense attorneys contend their clients were not present for the entire attack or did not share equal roles.
