"It was the 46th anniversary of the Americans' momentous upset of the might Soviet Union in the Olympic semifinal. Much has changed in the geopolitical and hockey worlds since then. The US is right up there with hockey powerhouse Canada. Jack Hughes scored the gold-medal goal with a left-wing wrist shot to lift the United States over Canada in the Olympic men's hockey final in Milan. Quinn Hughes earlier scored an overtime winner in the quarterfinal against Sweden. The U.S. claimed its third Olympic men's hockey gold and first in decades. Connor Hellebuyck made 40 saves, turning aside 40-of-41 shots and all 14 shots faced in the third period, drawing comparisons to Jim Craig. Hughes played with a bleeding lip from a high stick. Zach Werenski assisted the winner. The U.S. women also beat Canada, completing a hockey sweep at Milan-Cortina.
