I've held this in my whole life': ex-Big Brother contestant testifies about childhood sexual abuse by New Orleans priest
"I have been scarred emotionally, physically and psychologically for a lifetime, Martyn said in a prepared statement referring to the late clergyman Hubert Broussard. I would never know what it would be like to be a child, teenager, adult and walk unscarred by the injustice of this horrific act through life. Her testimony illustrated how many of the more than 300 clerical abusers named in claims filed as part of the archdiocese's bankruptcy case aren't considered by the church to be credibly accused."
"Martyn, whose legal first name is Lorenza, competed in Big Brother's 10th season in the US in 2008, according to an online encyclopedia dedicated to the show. In court, she explained that she was only in first grade when she encountered her abuser while on the way to a bathroom break. The clergyman lured her to a store room under the guise of an eye exam that Martyn believed was vital to her health."
Renny Martyn, 71, testified in federal court during bankruptcy proceedings for the New Orleans archdiocese, recounting sexual abuse by a priest at St Mary Magdalen elementary in Metairie. Martyn said the abuse occurred when she was six, after the clergyman lured her to a storeroom under the pretense of an eye exam. She described lifelong emotional, physical and psychological scarring. Martyn was one of about 20 claimants to testify at a fairness trial over a roughly $230 million settlement proposal for hundreds of survivors. The alleged abuser, Hubert Broussard, was not listed among about 80 credibly accused clergymen released by the archdiocese.
