Islanders' Jonathan Drouin knew his cross check looked bad
"I was standing by the net waiting for a rebound and he gave me a cross check," Drouin said. "I gave him a little jab. He gave me another one. I didn't really try to cross check the way it looks bad. I didn't try to get him in the face. My stick rises up. As soon as I got him, I was like, 'Oh, not a good look. Not a good spot to hit someone.' Unfortunate that I got him there."
"There's a couple of incidents before,"
"Just picking up where I left off,"
"Doing the things that found me success."
Jonathan Drouin was assessed a five-minute major for cross checking and a game misconduct late in the season-opening loss in Pittsburgh after contact with Connor Dewar. The NHL handed Drouin a one-game suspension, which kept him out of the Islanders' home opener at UBS Arena. Drouin said the contact was not intentional and expressed regret about the location of the hit. Drouin scored in his Islanders debut and had multiple altercations during the game. Coach Patrick Roy adjusted lines by promoting Anthony Duclair and Emil Heineman and inserting Marc Gatcomb. Cal Ritchie returned to morning skate; Adam Boqvist and Kyle MacLean remained scratches.
