In a historic vote, Tennessee Volkswagen workers get their first union contract
"Volkswagen workers have moved yet another mountain,"
"From having the courage to stand up and form their union, to having the backbone to authorize a strike and hold out for a contract that honors their worth, VW workers are leading the way for the entire labor movement and non-union autoworkers everywhere. Welcome to the UAW family."
"These benefits recognize and reward the hard work and dedication our team members give every day."
Workers at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant ratified their first union contract, winning pay increases, job protections, and a signing bonus. Workers had voted twice against unionizing before approving union representation in 2024, making the plant one of the few unionized auto facilities in the South and outside the Big 3. Negotiations extended nearly two years, with workers authorizing a potential strike; a tentative agreement was reached in early February and approved by a 96% yes vote. The contract includes a $6,550 immediate bonus, a 20% wage increase through February 2030, top wages of $39.41 for production and $49.86 for skilled workers, cost-of-living adjustments, and a 20% reduction in health-care premiums.
