Hamas has reported losing contact with the group holding Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander after Israeli bombardments targeted the area. Abu Obeida, a spokesperson for Hamas' armed wing, suggested the Israeli military is intent on harming Alexander to evade pressure regarding dual-citizen prisoners. A recent video showed Alexander alive but in distress, urging intervention from US President Trump. The situation is compounded by the belief that Alexander's death would undermine Palestinian leverage in negotiations for a ceasefire with Israel, as US involvement is seen as crucial for his safe release.
"The occupation army is deliberately trying to kill him and hence relieve themselves from the pressure caused by the dual-citizen prisoners in order to continue its genocide against our people," stated Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Qassam Brigades.
Hamas had released a video showing Edan Alexander—a 21-year-old soldier—alive and appealing for US President Trump’s help, insisting not to believe Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's lies.
The armed wing of Hamas warned that families of the captives should expect their children to return in "black coffins with their bodies torn apart from shrapnel from your army."
Hani Mahmoud reported that Palestinians believe the US has a vested interest in negotiating Alexander's release, which may pressure Israel to expedite a ceasefire agreement.
