Maxwell was relocated in July to FPC Bryan, a minimum-security prison camp in Texas that houses other high-profile inmates. The facility resembles a community college or small office park and offers less restrictive conditions than higher-security prisons. Inmates at the camp do not stigmatize cooperation with authorities, reducing the risk of ostracism or retaliation for providing information. Prison consultant Justin Paperny noted that Maxwell's interview with the Department of Justice and her possession of potentially useful information likely aided her transfer. During that interview Maxwell praised Trump and denied knowledge of any sexual abuse involving him.
Life at Ghislaine Maxwell's new prison may not compare to Jeffrey Epstein's New York and Caribbean island properties, but it's a vast improvement over her previous digs. In July, the Bureau of Prisons moved Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for trafficking girls to Epstein for sex, to FPC Bryan, a prison camp in Texas that also houses Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and former "Real Housewives" star Jen Shah.
"She has leverage," Paperny said. "Because she has information she can give to the Department of Justice that could have helped their interests in moving forward in the investigation." During the interview, which took place in a Tallahassee courthouse near the prison where she had been incarcerated following her 2021 sex-trafficking conviction, Maxwell praised Trump and said she was unaware of any sexual abuse involving him.
