Heavy lake-effect snow will impact the Great Lakes region into New Year's Day, with western and upstate New York downwind of Lakes Erie and Ontario most at risk. Localized accumulations of 12 to 18 inches are likely in pockets immediately south of Buffalo, extending toward Erie, and across Syracuse and the Tug Hill Plateau, with some upstate spots potentially seeing up to three feet. Other locations along the eastern side of Lake Michigan and parts of northwestern Pennsylvania may receive 3 to 5 inches. Strong northwesterly winds, reduced visibility, gusts near 70 mph and possible coastal flooding are expected. Winter Storm and Lake Effect Snow Warnings remain active.
