Garfield hands Palisades its first loss with dominating rushing attack
"Carson took us out last year so we'll be trying to get payback," Jauregui said."
""He's out for the year and we miss him but he just had surgery yesterday," Jauregui said of Reyes. "We can run the ball against anyone ... we have the best O-line in the City.""
In driving rain at Southwest College, Garfield relied on a powerful ground game to defeat Palisades 42-21 in a City Section Open Division quarterfinal. Zastice Jauregui, replacing injured Ceasar Reyes, scored five rushing touchdowns including long runs of 65 and 77 yards. Javier Vargas produced an 81-yard gain and followed with a touchdown run. Palisades responded with Demare Dezeurn's 75-yard kickoff return and a two-point conversion by Jack Thomas but was stopped on fourth down four times, including a goal-line stand early in the fourth. Garfield advances to face top-seeded Carson in the semifinals.
