Frank Caprio, aged 88, died peacefully of pancreatic cancer after a long and courageous illness. The passing was announced on August 20 via his official Instagram account, noting his compassion, humility, warmth, humor and belief in the goodness of people. He was described as a respected judge and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose legacy includes countless acts of kindness. Caprio revealed his cancer diagnosis in December 2023 after being diagnosed around his birthday the previous month and posted a final video on August 19 asking for continued prayers. He was born November 24, 1936, grew up in Providence's Federal Hill, graduated Providence College in 1958, taught at Hope High School while studying law at Suffolk University School of Law, served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard from 1954 to 1962, and was later elected to the Providence City Council.
