"I had bronchitis. Also cancer from the exposure. That was diagnosed this year. And that's been increased greatly, you know, as we have just reported, because of the time that goes by, the decades continue, that's when it starts to we start to see it. Back then I remember thinking maybe 20, 30 years later I will get something. Well, here it is 24 years,"
"Shawn noted that while 9/11 deaths stand around 3,000, that number has greatly increased simply from exposure for people who were present that day. According to the CDC, more than 40,000 have reported having cancers stemming from 9/11. While 2,977 people were murdered here that day, the number who have died from 9/11-related illnesses has increased from the toxic dust that was released, Shawn reported."
Eric Shawn disclosed a cancer diagnosis this year that he attributes to toxic dust exposure while covering the 9/11 attacks. Shawn reported prior bronchitis and noted that illnesses tied to 9/11 exposure tend to emerge decades after the event. The CDC has recorded more than 40,000 people reporting cancers connected to 9/11 exposure. The initial 2,977 people killed on 9/11 are distinct from the growing number who later developed fatal illnesses from toxic dust. Shawn's colleagues expressed surprise, offered support, and offered prayers following the disclosure.
