Michael David Coberg, 44, of Eastvale pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit extortion and conspiracy against rights and faces up to 30 years in federal prison. Coberg was an active Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy and helicopter pilot when he helped Adam Iza commit extortion in October 2021. Coberg carried a gun, identified himself as active law enforcement, and interrogated a victim identified by initials. Prosecutors say Coberg stood watch while Iza recorded a $127,000 transfer and directed security to seize the victim's passport. Coberg later took the victim to a shooting range where Iza held the victim at gunpoint and extorted further payments. An attorney for Coberg did not respond to requests for comment.
