Tommy Aijie Da Silva Weng, 49, was arrested for allegedly scamming a Chinese national out of over $500,000 by impersonating a federal immigration agent. He promised the victim expedited green card assistance through an investment in a non-existent hotel project. Weng, who used a vanity license plate referencing ICE, misled the victim into trusting him by showing a fake badge and using a business card from a non-existent police association. The scam began in April 2016, exploiting the victim's desire for U.S. citizenship and ultimately defrauding her of her savings.
Weng preyed on the victim's hope for U.S. citizenship, stealing both her dream and over $500,000 through an elaborate impersonation and fraud scheme.
