Air traffic controllers and other federal airport workers are working without pay and many are calling out of work as financial pressures mount. More than 16,000 flights flying into, within, or out of the U.S. have been delayed since Monday, October 6, with daily spikes and hundreds delayed as of late Thursday morning. The FAA has issued temporary ground delays and ground stops at multiple airports, and an operational plan lists additional airports at risk of delays.
