FAA extends flight restrictions at Newark Airport until Oct. 24, 2026
"The goal of the reduced rates is to continue maintaining safety while alleviating flight delays due to staffing and equipment challenges, resulting in smoother travel into and out of Newark,"
"The reduced operations, along with continued focus on technology upgrades and ATC staffing increases, are critical milestones toward Newark's long-term operational certainty,"
"Things will only get better as we head into the fall and winter seasons."
The FAA is extending a reduced rate of arrivals and departures at Newark Liberty International Airport through October 2026. The caps aim to maintain safety and reduce travel disruptions after earlier communications and radar outages caused thousands of cancellations. The hourly limit increases by four to 72 takeoffs and landings, below pre-cap levels above 80. Technology and staffing improvements include a new fiber-optic communications link to the Philadelphia TRACON, 22 fully certified controllers, five certified supervisors, and 27 controllers and supervisors in training. United Airlines supports the reduced operations and ongoing upgrades.
