Dae Dae Hunter acknowledged his role in a point-shaving scheme during the previous season. He, along with teammates Dyquavian Short and Jamond Vincent, were accused by the NCAA of losing or attempting to lose by more than the point spread in at least seven games for the University of New Orleans Privateers. The NCAA ruled all three players permanently ineligible. The players were reportedly approached about the scheme by an unidentified bettor in Las Vegas. Hunter described deliberately missing some shots as part of the scheme. Hunter said his financial need to care for his newborn child motivated his actions and admitted to lying to NCAA investigators.
