The U.S. Department of Education has revoked a substantial $37.7 million fine against Grand Canyon University, which was imposed under the Biden administration for allegedly misleading doctoral students regarding degree costs. This decision follows a protracted dispute over the university's status as an independent institution versus its for-profit ownership. In a recent dismissal order, the Education Department stated that it had failed to substantiate any violations of Title IV regulations, leading to the university's withdrawal of its appeal and asserting its innocence in regards to the accusations.
"The facts clearly support our contention that we were wrongly accused of misleading our Doctoral students and we appreciate the recognition that those accusations were without merit," Brian Mueller, president of Grand Canyon University, said in the university's news release.
The Education Department has now dismissed its case against Grand Canyon in a Joint Stipulation of Dismissal order issued by the department's Office of Hearings and Appeals.
