"The foreperson of the Florida jury that last week convicted Donna Adelson, the matriarch of a wealthy Florida family, in the July 2014 murder of her former son-in-law is talking about the case in TikTok videos and responses to commenters. The foreperson called Adelson the "matriarch mastermind" in the murder of Dan Markel, a professor at the Florida State University College of Law, and speculated about possible new charges in the case, the Tallahassee Democrat reports."
"Jurors convicted Adelson, 75, after only three hours of deliberations on charges of of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and solicitation to commit murder. Prosecutors said she helped plan the murder, so that her daughter Wendi Adelson, Markel's ex-wife, could move from Tallahassee, Florida, to South Florida with the couple's two children. Wendi Adelson was involved in a custody battle with Markel; she has not been charged in the case."
A jury convicted Donna Adelson of first-degree murder, conspiracy and solicitation in the July 2014 killing of Dan Markel after about three hours of deliberation. Prosecutors said Adelson helped plan the killing so her daughter could relocate with their children amid a custody battle. Charlie Adelson, her son, was convicted in November 2023 on the same charges for hiring hit men. Jurors referenced testimony from estranged son Robert Adelson and an inmate who said Donna Adelson sought false testimony and provided a script. The jury foreperson discussed the verdict and possible further charges on TikTok.
