Elmina Aghayeva, a senior at Columbia University's School of General Studies from Azerbaijan, was arrested by federal immigration agents in a university residential building. NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that President Donald Trump called him personally to inform him that Aghayeva would be released imminently. Acting University President Claire Shipman stated that federal agents made misrepresentations to gain entry to the building, claiming they were searching for a missing person. Shortly after the mayor's announcement, Aghayeva confirmed her release through an Instagram post.
