Previously, Petro faced pressure from Trump regarding deported Colombian migrants and ultimately reversed his stance, which led to promises of using his presidential plane to assist repatriation efforts. The State Department remained silent on visa records confidentiality, while tensions between the two leaders highlighted deteriorating US-Colombia relations.
"I can no longer go because I believe they took away my visa," Petro said.
"Today's events make clear to the world that America is respected again," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said of the showdown at the time.
