College Football Star's Dad and Brother Apologize for 'Unnecessary Fight' at His Game
""We sincerely apologize for our actions following yesterday's football game in Ireland. Senseless bickering escalated into an unnecessary fight," Mark and Anthony Johnson wrote in a statement to the college sports website On3. "We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions. We have apologized to our immediate and extended family, and now extend our apologies to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans. "We regret this incident, have learned from it, and are committed to ensuring it doesn't happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies.""
""Anthony, this is embarrassing.""
""Dad, stop.""
Following Kansas State's 24-21 loss to Iowa State in Dublin, the father and older brother of quarterback Avery Johnson were filmed fighting in the stadium parking lot. Video showed Mark Johnson laying on top of his son, punching him and placing a forearm across his neck, before fans separated them and restrained Anthony Johnson as he charged at his father. Mark and Anthony issued a joint apology, taking responsibility, saying they resolved their differences, and extending apologies to family, Kansas State University, alumni and fans. Avery Johnson totaled 273 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown and has not commented. The matchup was the Big 12 "Farmageddon" rivalry and Kansas State's first season-opening loss in five years.
