Cole Hutson was named an alternate captain for Boston University for the 2025–26 season and will return as a sophomore. Hutson was a 2024 second-round pick of the Washington Capitals and won the 2025 Tim Taylor Award as NCAA Rookie of the Year. He recorded 48 points (14g, 34a) in 39 games, tying for most points by a defenseman nationally and helping BU reach the national title game, which BU lost 6-2 to Western Michigan. Gavin McCarthy was named captain while Jack Harvey and Cole Eiserman join Hutson as alternates. The roster adds multiple high-ranked commits, transfers, and returning NHL draftees. Hutson was a top performer at the Capitals' development camp, led his 3-on-3 team to the tournament championship with two goals in the final, and is set to focus on his BU season before turning to pro opportunities.
