""Ballmer was the perfect deep-pocket partner to fund Catona's flagging operations and lend legitimacy to Catona's carbon credit business,""

Eleven former investors filed an amended civil lawsuit adding Steve Ballmer and Ballmer Group as defendants, alleging fraud tied to investments in CTN Holdings, Inc. (formerly Aspiration Partners). Plaintiffs seek at least $50 million, claiming investor funds were diverted to prop up the failing carbon-credit company and to mask payments to Clippers star Kawhi Leonard. The complaint cites a $28-million deal between Aspiration and Leonard that allegedly helped circumvent the NBA salary cap and asserts Ballmer's backing lent legitimacy to Catona's operations. Aspiration co-founder Joseph Sanberg pleaded guilty to a $248-million fraud, and the NBA is investigating salary-cap allegations.
