CBS is the latest news giant to bend to Trump's power
Briefly

Paramount Global settled President Trump's lawsuit concerning a 60 Minutes interview for $16 million. This settlement allows for a smoother transition of CBS to Skydance Media, backed by Trump ally Larry Ellison. Trump's legal team claimed CBS's editing represented election interference, leading to the lawsuit. The development raises concerns regarding the integrity of independent journalism, as key media owners seem to yield to power rather than question it, suggesting a troubling trend in how media interacts with political authorities.
The $16 million settlement over an interview CBS' 60 Minutes conducted last fall with then-Vice President Kamala Harris smooths the path for Redstone and Paramount to secure the approval of the Federal Communications Commission to sell the company to Skydance Media.
Trump's legal team had alleged that CBS's decision last fall to air different parts of Harris's answer to a question about the Israel/Hamas conflict on 60 Minutes and Face The Nation constituted election interference.
"With this record settlement, President Donald J. Trump delivers another win for the American people as he, once again, holds the Fake News media accountable for their wrongdoing and deceit," a spokesperson for Trump's legal team said.
A number of corporate and individual owners of media that promise to hold power to account have instead bowed to it.
