California Border Patrol agent facing felony assault charges has died
Briefly

Isaiah Hodgson, 29, a U.S. Border Patrol agent, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at a Valle Vista home on Aug. 22; deputies reported no evidence of foul play and the cause of death was not immediately available. Hodgson had pleaded not guilty on July 11 to multiple charges including three felony counts of resisting an executive officer, one felony battery with injury on a peace officer, and misdemeanor counts related to carrying a loaded firearm in public. Authorities allege he was intoxicated and armed in a July 7 restaurant incident and injured a Long Beach officer during an arrest. He was released with conditions including surrendering firearms, staying in California, and attending alcohol counseling; his employment status with DHS was under review and his next court date was set for Sept. 24.
Authorities alleged Hodgson was intoxicated and armed with a handgun at a Shoreline Village restaurant on July 7. He entered the women's restroom and approached a female patron, who saw the weapon and alerted staff, prosecutors said. A security guard then saw a firearm in his waistband and asked him to leave. When Long Beach police officers arrived, Hodgson refused commands and fought with them, injuring one officer, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 22 to a home on Avocet Circle in Valle Vista, an unincorporated community east of Hemet, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. They found Hodgson unresponsive and pronounced him dead at the scene. Deputies did not find evidence indicating foul play, the department said. Information on his cause of death was not immediately available.
