Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced that City Hall Plaza will host the FIFA World Cup Fan Festival in downtown Boston during a press conference with Gov. Maura Healey. City Hall Plaza’s central location will showcase Boston’s culture, diverse community, and provide exposure for local businesses. Gov. Healey called the plaza a historic gathering space with live entertainment, local food, and interactive experiences. State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz emphasized the need for a centralized fan gathering point for those unable to attend matches in Foxborough. Officials project seven matches at Gillette Stadium, $100 million in tax revenue, over 9,000 jobs, more than 2 million international visitors, and a total economic impact exceeding $1 billion while coordinating safety and operations with Boston 26.
