"U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent Greg Lairmore testified against a man who threw a sandwich at him on Tuesday, telling the court he could smell the onions and mustard as soon as the sandwich hit his chest. Sean Charles Dunn, 37, went viral in August after a video showed him confronting a pair of border protection agents in Washington, D.C. before throwing a Subway-style sandwich at Lairmore's chest. Dunn was then chased on foot, arrested, and charged with assaulting a federal officer."
"I could smell the onions and mustard, testified Lairmore in court on Tuesday, adding that the sandwich kind of exploded on his chest. Lairmore claimed that while he was not injured during the attack, the sandwich was thrown hard enough that he could feel the impact through his ballistic vest. You could see jurors kind of holding back giggles as video of the sandwich-throwing incident was played a number of different times, reported WUSA9."
"But during their opening arguments, the Department of Justice said this was no laughing matter. In court, the attorney for the Department of Justice argued that while we all may have views about the federal law-enforcement presence in D.C. that was not what this case is about. You can't go around throwing stuff at people when you're mad. You can't do it to your neighbor, and you can't do it to law enforcement, the attorneys noted. Dunn's attorneys, meanwhile, argued that the attack was not a federal crime, despite acknowledging that their client did throw the sandwich. If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you, warned U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi after Dunn's arrest in August. I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice NO LONGER. Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement."
A viral August video shows Sean Charles Dunn confronting border protection agents in Washington, D.C. and throwing a Subway-style sandwich at Agent Greg Lairmore. Lairmore testified he smelled onions and mustard as the sandwich hit his chest and said the sandwich “kind of exploded” on his ballistic vest; he reported no injury but felt the impact. Jurors reacted with visible amusement as the video was replayed multiple times. The Department of Justice emphasized that assaulting federal officers is serious and argued the case is not about law-enforcement presence. Dunn's lawyers acknowledged the throw but contended it was not a federal crime. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi warned that anyone who touches law enforcement will be pursued and noted the defendant was fired and charged with a felony.
