"Prosecutors have spent several days presenting what has become a stockpile of evidence collected at the time of Luigi Mangione's arrest last year, from his backpack and off his person. Thursday morning, defense attorneys will resume efforts to block that evidence from being admissible when the case goes to trial. (Video in media player is from a previous report) During Tuesday's session, prosecutors unveiled what they describe as a "manifesto" and other writings they claim implicate Mangione in the murder of Brian Thompson."
"Jurors also saw bodycam footage from the first two officers who responded to the 911 call. Taking the stand was one of those officers, Steven Fox, who is seen in the video reading Mangione his Miranda rights, placing him in handcuffs, and searching his backpack."
Prosecutors presented a stockpile of evidence seized at Luigi Mangione's arrest, including writings, a hand-drawn map labeled an "escape route" marking seven Midwestern cities, and a document described as a "manifesto" that prosecutors say implicates him in the murder of Brian Thompson. Jurors viewed bodycam footage from the first responding officers and heard Officer Steven Fox testify that he read Miranda rights, handcuffed Mangione, and searched his backpack. Defense attorneys contend the interaction violated constitutional rights, asserting the Miranda warning was improper and the search occurred without a warrant at a Pennsylvania McDonald's five days after the shooting. A judge will continue hearings before ruling on admissibility.
