Bengals say Flacco trade gives team 'a chance'
""They just see that we've got a chance," Chase said on Thursday."
""Defense is doing a good enough job to help us out. Our playmakers gotta make plays in space. That's what they see. That's what they want - is to keep going. They're just giving us an opportunity to make more of those plays happen.""
Cincinnati acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a fifth-round pick and received a sixth-round pick in return, both selections for next year's draft. Flacco will be the new starting quarterback while Joe Burrow remains injured and Jake Browning had been starting. The move comes amid a three-game losing streak and a stretch of low-scoring offensive performances in which the team failed to muster more than three points in the first three quarters of recent losses. Ja'Marr Chase initially thought the trade news was a joke after a call from Tee Higgins. Tee Higgins first saw news of the deal on social media. Chase described the trade as a sign of the franchise's belief in the season and said it gives playmakers more opportunities to make plays in space.
