Protesters from across the Bay Area and beyond gathered within hours of the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Minneapolis. Bay Area residents voiced solidarity and condemnation, describing Pretti as comforting others and leading a person to safety during protests. The shooting was carried out by a Border Patrol agent and marked the second fatal federal-agent shooting of a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis this month after Renee Good was killed by an ICE agent. The Department of Homeland Security alleges Pretti approached agents with a semi-automatic handgun and "violently resisted" when they tried to disarm him. Local officials disputed that characterization.
