Bay Area police arrest man for scamming $25,0000 from elderly woman

A Fresno man was implicated in a scam that defrauded an elderly Sausalito resident of $25,000, attempting to solicit an additional $25,000. The fraudsters posed as representatives from Apple, Wells Fargo, and federal agencies, claiming the victim's bank account was compromised. They instructed her to give $25,000 in cash to a courier. Before transferring further funds, she contacted the police, leading to the suspect's arrest. Jasvir Singh, 35, faced charges of embezzlement and obtaining money under false pretenses, with a bail set at $50,000.
The victim received a text message reporting a suspicious charge and directed her to call a particular phone number.
The scammers instructed the victim to hand $25,000 in cash to a courier who visited her home.
Later, the victim was preparing to hand over another $25,000 payment and decided to contact police.
Jasvir Singh, 35, was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of embezzlement from an elderly person and obtaining money by false pretenses.
