"In the video, which is available on YouTube, Gao can be seen alone in her vehicle nervously answering questions from the officers. The officers ask about her out-of-state driver's license and an expired registration on her car."
On November 19, 2024, 32-year-old Jasmine Gao was shot three times by a BART police officer in the Union City Station parking lot after officers stopped her vehicle. Initial BART statements said Gao assaulted an officer, but released body-worn camera footage showed no assault and contradicted early claims. Video shows Gao alone in her car, saying she was a "new driver", claiming others had been doing donuts, and appearing nervous while searching for registration and insurance. An officer, Nicholas Poblete, later said he was dragged by Gao's vehicle. A scuffle occurred when officers reached into the car after Gao snatched back her ID. BART now says the initial report was inaccurate and Gao received a significant legal settlement.
