As US Pushes For Zero Enrichment, Iran Insists It Won't Give It Up Nuclear Program
Briefly

Steve Witkoff, the US Middle East envoy, stated that the Trump administration's nuclear negotiations with Iran set 'zero enrichment' as a red line, which Iran has categorically rejected. Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, asserted their country's right to enrichment as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and indicated their willingness to engage in serious negotiations. The situation remains tense, with Iranian leaders emphasizing their nuclear knowledge and capabilities, while seeking regional disarmament instead of weapons development.
"We cannot allow even 1 percent of an enrichment capability," Witkoff told ABC on May 18, insisting any enrichment, even for civilian purposes, could enable weaponization.
"Enrichment in Iran will continue with or without a deal," Araghchi posted on X, emphasizing that Iran's right to enrichment is non-negotiable as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
