Some network television stations are expanding community reporting, and some public radio and television stations are collaborating on local and regional news. Student journalists are filling reporting gaps. Hundreds of nonprofit local news websites have emerged over the past two decades. Local journalism remains fragile but shows pathways to survival that require sustained effort and resources.

A lot of things have happened that have hurt local news coverage throughout the country and deprived many parts of the country of any local news. But at the same time, there are all these new startups and news organizations that are being rescued,
So, on balance, I can see where local news can survive, but it's going to require a lot of work.
