Arrest made in killing of Calif. woman who livestreamed sister's death
"In July 2017, Sanchez, then 18 years old, went on a joy ride while intoxicated. In the car with her were two 14-year-olds, one of whom was her sister. As Sanchez drove erratically, she was livestreaming on Instagram, prosecutors said. She lost control of the car in Los Banos, swerving off the road as the car overturned."
"Sanchez was ultimately sentenced to six years in prison for vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment and driving under the influence, but she ended up serving 26 months. She was released for good behavior in Sept. 2019 and quickly re-offended, ending up back behind bars a month later for allegedly leading Stockton police on a car chase."
"On Dec. 2, San Joaquin County sheriff's deputies were called to the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue in Stockton for reports of a shooting. They found a man and a woman, who was later identified as Sanchez, with gunshot wounds. The man survived, but Sanchez died of her injuries."
Obdulia Sanchez gained notoriety in July 2017 when, at age 18, she livestreamed a car crash on Instagram while driving intoxicated with two 14-year-old passengers. The crash killed her sister and injured the other girl. Sanchez was sentenced to six years for vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment, and DUI, serving 26 months before release in September 2019. Shortly after release, she was arrested for leading police on a car chase. On December 2, Sanchez was found with gunshot wounds in Stockton and died from her injuries. After months of investigation, Monica Barajas, 27, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting.
