Eileen Wang, mayor of Arcadia, entered a plea agreement with federal prosecutors resolving charges that she acted as an illegal foreign agent of China. The agreement states that from 2020 through 2022 she promoted propaganda in the United States under direction from the People’s Republic of China. Wang admitted to all charges and is scheduled for arraignment in downtown Los Angeles. The maximum penalty for the charge is 10 years in prison. The filing says she worked with Yaoning “Mike” Sun to run a website targeting Chinese Americans, executed directives from Chinese government officials, posted requested articles, and reported audience metrics with screenshots. It also describes a June 10, 2021 message about Xinjiang and her posting and response shortly afterward.
