Anker's recent power bank recall involves over 481,000 units
"The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has issued a formal notice with more details about the five power banks that Anker voluntarily recalled earlier this year. The agency has received 33 reports of incidents involving fires and explosions caused by the power banks, with four of them causing "minor burn injuries" and one resulting in "substantial property damage." In total about 481,000 Anker power banks are part of the recall."
"Consumers with a recalled unit should immediately stop using it and properly dispose of it through a facility that can safely handle lithium-ion batteries. They should not be placed in the trash, recycling bins, or the used battery boxes found at many retailers. (Please do not put it in the garbage!) Anker is offering a full refund or a gift card that can be used to purchase other Anker products."
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice about five Anker power bank models recalled after 33 reports of fires and explosions, including four minor burn injuries and one instance of substantial property damage. Approximately 481,000 units are included in the recall. The affected products are external batteries for charging devices, including one with a wireless charging pad, sold through major retailers from August 2023 to June 2025. Anker cited a potential issue with lithium-ion batteries from a supplier and called the risk minimal but initiated a global recall. Consumers should stop using recalled units and dispose of them safely; refunds or gift cards are available with proof of purchase and serial number.
