American Anglican archbishop suspended after sexual misconduct allegations
"This action does not determine guilt or innocence, nor does it pre-judge any allegation or future proceeding,"
"While he has placed himself on a leave of absence, such leave can be ended at his discretion,"
"An inhibition - though not a statement of guilt or innocence - protects the integrity of the inquiry and ensures that the process needed to seek the truth can proceed without interference."
Stephen Wood, 62, archbishop of the 16-year-old Anglican Church in North America, has been suspended from his duties and all clerical responsibilities amid allegations of sexual misconduct by two women. Bishop Julian Dobbs, acting as dean, issued the inhibition with consent of five senior bishops and set the suspension to last no longer than 60 days unless extended. Wood retains the technical title of archbishop and will continue to receive his salary. More than 150 clergy signed a petition and the Diocese of South Carolina requested inhibition to protect the integrity of the inquiry and prevent interference with a potential ecclesiastical trial.
