Hurricanes Imelda and Humberto continue causing havoc along parts of the North Carolina coast. Cleanup is underway after eight waterfront homes collapsed on the Outer Banks, and the destroyed homes were unoccupied. Imelda remains churning waters and could threaten additional structures over the next few days. Dare County is mobilizing to move and hold sand to preserve the beach, support Buxton, and prevent future collapses. Beach nourishment and jetty repairs for the area are scheduled for 2026.
