The suspect apparently set the building on fire and was pursued by two officers who "engaged in gunfire," killing him. Flames and smoke poured for hours before firefighters extinguished the blaze; first responders sifted through wreckage expecting additional victims. Police initially reported nine injured; later one more person died from a gunshot wound at a hospital. Investigators have not determined a motive and are searching the suspect's residence in Burton. President Donald Trump was briefed.
